Job Scope:

We are looking for a dynamic and highly experienced payroll professional to join our Human Resources team. The ideal candidate will complete weekly/bi-weekly payroll processing for multiple pay groups. The successful applicant will process payroll for both hourly and salaried employees, including union and non-union groups, and possesses multi-provincial payroll experience. In addition, the candidate will have a strong financial acumen and provide support to the finance team on payroll reporting, GL reconciliations and audits, reporting to our Payroll Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the weekly/bi-weekly full cycle payroll process using the Ceridian Dayforce HCM system, while maximizing efficiencies and ensuring data integrity
  • Update payroll related records within the system, including taxation, deductions/earnings set-up, group benefit premiums, etc.
  • Maintain various payroll schedules (maternity leave top-ups, salary continuance, STD payments, taxable benefits, etc.), prepare ROEs and other related tasks
  • Audit employee time and attendance hours worked for calculating or coding errors, coordinate resolutions and approvals with supervisors, HR business partners and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy of hourly pay data
  • Assist with the preparation of payroll remittances to various third-party payees such as CRA, WSIB, wage garnishments, payroll taxes, group benefit premiums, union dues, etc.
  • Assist with the reconciliation of statutory deductions and annual reports for CRA, CSST, EHT and WSIB, including reconciliations and issuance of year-end T4’s, T4A’s, and RL-1’s
  • Provide professional advice and service to internal clients such as HR colleagues, finance, operations staff, employees, as well as external contacts such as Service Canada, CNESST, CRA, Sun Life and others
  • Adhere to the terms of the Collective Agreement when dealing with unionized employees
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of payroll systems and keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll
  • Manage security card program and system
  • Other duties and projects as required
 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years senior level experience in handling high-volume and multi-province payrolls
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certificate designation is required
  • Post-secondary education with a focus in Administration and / or Accounting preferred
  • Experience processing payroll in Ceridian Dayforce is required
  • Experience with unionized and/or manufacturing hourly payroll environment is required
  • Excellent computer skills are required, including advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Solid comprehension and understanding of payroll/timekeeping practices, employment legislation, CRA regulations and accounting principles
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Enthusiastic team player with a customer service and process improvement mindset
  • Highly organized with effective time management and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with personal information

Key Responsibilities:

  • Target and generate new account sales in each geographical territory
  • Ensure Gay Lea Foods product is being represented in a professional manner

  • Enhance new account service levels by providing regular feedback and recommendations to store management and to Gay Lea Foods

Quality Control Laboratory Technician - Night Shift

Job Scope:

Reporting to the QC Supervisor, the scope of this night shift position involves ensuring the production process meets superior food safety systems (HACCP) and quality standards from entry of raw materials into the facility, to the processing of goods, to shipment of finished products. Night Shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am Work Week: The first shift of the week starts Sunday night at 10 pm, final shift of the week ends at 6:30 am on Friday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare samples, media and buffers used for daily analysis
  • Perform chemical and microbiological testing of dairy products
  • Generate test results with a high level of accuracy and reliability
  • Conduct product swabbing and environmental sampling
  • Produce reports and computer data entry of various information for the purpose of maintaining accurate records
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and maintain cleanliness within the lab.
  • Work closely with production staff in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, GMP’s and work related necessary training
  • Train operators on all changes to the Food Safety & Quality system as communicated by Management and QA
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience in the food industry (or equivalent)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Diploma in Microbiology or food science. (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of microbiological procedures and autoclaving techniques
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s, allergens, and food security
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills

Industrial Electrician

Job Scope:

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician – Electrician is responsible for the preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all equipment and machinery at the Teeswater facility including refrigeration, waste water systems, steam boiler, building maintenance and other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operation and maintenance of all refrigeration/boiler/HVAC equipment
  • Repair and maintenance of pasteurizing, separating, and dryer process systems, packaging systems common to a dairy operation
  • Coordinate with necessary contractual and inspection departments for adherence to regulatory and company requirements
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and manuals to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Maintain all records to ensure regulatory and company compliance
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns relating to all boiler, refrigeration and HVAC issues

  • Knowledge of GMPs, including excellent sanitary habits and possess knowledge of HACCP
  • Strong preventative maintenance and troubleshooting ability
  • Solid knowledge of high speed filling and packaging lines and PLCs
  • Familiar with continuous improvement processes and methodologies considered an asset
  • Knowledge of fuel systems, waste water treatment, air compressors and refrigeration systems
  • Good communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be flexible in terms of shift work and perform other duties as required

Supervisor – Transportation Milk Hauling

Job Scope:

Reporting to the Manager, the scope of this position involves directing and overseeing the daily operations of the Teeswater bulk hauling and farm pick-up activities. The incumbent will schedule staff and routes to accordance with demand for delivery of product to inter-company and external customers. This role is also responsible for identifying and implementing transportation efficiency initiatives to improve performance related to sustainability, cost and other strategic directives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to perform day to day scheduling of interplant shipments; Adapting to last minute changes including the addition and cancelation of loads
  • Scheduling drivers and routes for bovine and goat milk pick-up in accordance with Ministry of Transportation limits, DFO, OMTA and Dairy Goat hauling protocols
  • Manage budget and report on all transportation costs; Monitor and plan daily activities maximizing efficiency and cost-effective practices; Identify and execute cost-saving project opportunities
  • Promote safe work activities, both at the shop and on the road, by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings and meeting with individual staff members
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll for all drivers including scheduling, timesheet authorization and vacation planning
  • Prepare and deliver training and presentations for orientations and/or tailgate talks as per department requirements
  • Work with co-supervisor to train and coach employees; plan and execute the performance review and performance management process
  • Schedule and arrange all fleet maintenance. Maintain records relating to the movement and costs of the company fleet and expenses. Review and approve of all invoicing on fleet maintenance
  • Oversee leasing contracts to ensure licensing is current, arrange for substitute equipment as required; Engage in pricing reviews

Qualifications:

  • Valid Milk Graders license or willingness to obtain

  • Proven, hands on success with preventative and predictive maintenance systems

  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including PLC programming
  • Progressive approach to maintenance and process improvement driven
  • Computer skills – experience with MP2, MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Must have a good understanding of the scheduling requirements for the production departments, and to be able to co-ordinate the maintenance and repair activities
