The Gay Lea Foundation

Gay Lea Foods has a long and rich history of charitable giving. As a co-operative, it’s a part of who we are.

In 2014, we created the Gay Lea Foundation, our own registered charity dedicated to supporting education, poverty relief, co-operative development, and community well-being projects in the communities where our members and employees live, work and play – and in developing countries around the world.

Funding for the Foundation is provided by Gay Lea Foods and supplemented by personal donations from across the Gay Lea Foods’ family. Between organized internal “Co-op Week” activities, director and delegate silent auctions, and elective employee payroll deductions, our employees, delegates, and directors embrace the co-operative spirit, collectively raising upward of one hundred thousand dollars annually for the Foundation and the community development projects it supports!

True to its collaborative nature, the Foundation is governed by a 11-member Board of Directors comprised of Gay Lea Foods employees, members, delegates, and directors.

Since its creation, the Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million in charitable grants to registered Canadian charities doing important development work in Canada, Haiti, Central America, Asia, and Africa.

We are exceptionally proud of these contributions and of the generosity of the entire Gay Lea Foods family. Through years of charitable giving and now, through the Gay Lea Foundation, our co-operative continues to foster growth, cultivate opportunity, and provide hope and promise for families around the world.

This is charitable giving at Gay Lea Foods.
