Pizza Grilled Cheese

Grilled cheese a la Italiana! This grilled cheese tastes so much like pizza, you might just find yourself making it for your family a couple of times a week!! No need for pizza dough or freezer-based products. Slice, spread, cook and 10 minutes later you have dinner.

Ingredients:

8slices whole wheat or Italian bread, 1/4-inch (5 mm) thick8
1/3 cupprepared pasta sauce75 mL
8thin slices Mozzarella cheese (about 7 oz)8
20small pepperoni slices (about 2 oz)20
1 tbspgreated Parmesan cheese15 mL
1/4 cupGay Lea Spreadables butter50 mL
1/2 tspdried oregano or Italian seasoning2 mL

Instructions:

Place 4 slices of bread on work surface. Spread pasta sauce evenly over each slice. Top each with 1 slice of cheese, 1/4 of pasta sauce, 1/4 of pepperoni (if using), remaining cheese slice and Parmesan. Top with remaining bread slices. Spread half of butter over top of bread.

 
Place sandwiches, buttered side down, two at a time, in non-stick skillet set over medium heat. Spread half of remaining butter over top of bread. Cook for about 5 minutes or until underside is golden and cheese has started to melt. Flip sandwiches over; cook for 3 to 4 minutes longer or until underside is golden and cheese is melted.
 
Repeat with remaining sandwiches and butter. Makes 2 sandwiches.
