About Us

It might surprise you to know that Gay Lea Foods is a co-operative owned by over 1,200 farmers. That's approximately one quarter of Ontario's dairy farmers, with five production facilities spanning Toronto, Madoc, Mississauga, Guelph, and Teeswater. We manufacture a range of wholesome dairy products including milk, dips, butter, sour cream, whipped cream, and cottage cheese.

In 2008, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. And what a journey it's been. From the invention of whipped cream in an aerosol container, to spreadable butter, to a fruit bottom cottage cheese that garnered a consumer choice award for Best New Product in the dairy category; our path has been marked by innovation. Great partnerships, too. In year 50, we bettered our cooperative by joining with the makers of award-winning artisan cheeses, Ivanhoe Cheese.

More than just the pursuit of quality dairy products, Gay Lea Foods is about people. To date, we've raised $300,000 in support of co-operative development around the globe. We continuously upgrade our facilities and equipment to ensure our employees work in safe, healthy environments. And we reinvest, renovate and innovate so that our customers are guaranteed delivery of fresh and delicious dairy products.

It's this genuine interest in our people, our customers, and food innovation that has brought us 50 years of success. With the continued support of our members and loyal customers, we look forward to 50 more.
