Ivanhoe Cheese

We are pleased to announce that Gay Lea Foods has acquired the Ivanhoe Cheese Co. Ivanhoe is a growing, successful cheese company based in Eastern Ontario with a reputation of quality and customer service. They are the oldest cheese company in Canada, established as a co-operative in 1870 and owned as a private company by the current owners since 1987.

Gay Lea has built its 50 year reputation around customer service, quality products and in valuing its people and community. These are the same values that have driven the people at Ivanhoe Cheese to their current success.

The Ivanhoe plant, located in Madoc, Ontario (north of Belleville) is HACCP, Kosher and Halal certified. They have approximately 97 employees. Ivanhoe makes aged cheese for export and for the domestic market. After privatization, the company entered the foodservice, consumer and industrial markets as well. They have a unique process cheese and premium quality cheese sauces.
